Sen. Charles Schumer, D-NY, has been invited to inaugurate the 24th annual Buildings NY Show, one of the largest real estate trade shows on the East Coast, which is sponsored by the Associated Builders and Owners (ABO) of Greater New York and produced by Reed Exhibitions.

Schumer is scheduled to kick off the trade show with an address at a special breakfast followed by a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at 9:00 a.m. at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on 11th Avenue, between 34th and 39th Streets.

Schumer is a long-time champion of New York City development. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, he helped secure $20 billion in federal emergency aid to help restore and rebuild New York City. Schumer’s Group of 35 developed a comprehensive plan to address New York City’s long-term economic needs by adding 60,000 sq. ft. (5,574 sq m) of new office space to accommodate 300,000 new jobs projected over the next 20 years.

“We are very excited to have Senator Schumer kick off this year’s Buildings NY trade show,” said Nick Laborite, executive director of the ABO. “We look forward to hearing the Senator’s insights on the importance of the real estate industry to New York City.”

Buildings NY features exhibitions and conferences on Tuesday, June 8 and Wednesday, June 9, from 10:00 am. to 5:00 p.m. both days. More than 500 exhibitors, encompassing all aspects of residential and commercial real estate, offers more than 10,000 industry professionals “one-stop shopping” for all of their building and maintenance needs.

For the first time, the Buildings NY trade show will be endorsed by the Buildings and Owners Management Association of New York (BOMA/NY). This alliance will provide membership opportunities for BOMA/NY as well as visibility for its career-building programs and services among the thousands of real estate professionals attending Buildings NY.

Since 1910, ABO members have been at the forefront of New York’s real estate industry. Through ABO affiliation, real estate professionals are a part of one of the industry’s largest, most effective organizations helping to shape the city’s communities and civic life.

Buildings NY, produced by Reed Exhibitions, is one of the largest annual regional trade events for building owners, real estate developers, commercial architects, facility managers, property managers and security professionals. Suppliers serving all aspects of building maintenance, renovation and restoration are represented on the show floor.

Sponsored by the ABO, Buildings NY also offers information through its conference program that covers trends, issues and regulations taught by the industry’s top educators.
