ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) St. Johnsbury officials are getting ready to take advantage of an economic stimulus package that could fund public works projects.

St. Johnsbury Town Manager Mike Welch said there are projects in the community that are designed and ready to go, if the money can be found to pay for them.

The administration of President Barack Obama is said to be considering an economic stimulus package that could include spending on local infrastructure needs.

St. Johnsbury needs more than $40 million in water and sewer upgrades alone.

Two engineering firms have contacted St. Johnsbury officials offering to help prepare projects that could be ready for construction within 120 days.
