TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) Transportation planners have narrowed the options they have under consideration for a possible Interstate 10 bypass that could let through traffic on I-10 avoiding Phoenix and Tucson.
Most segments in the Phoenix area have been discarded. But one possible route that is still under consideration would link I-10 west of Phoenix with Interstate 8 near Casa Grande.
Several options in the corridor’s eastern segment have been dropped but four remain under study. One would take traffic west of Tucson while three would slice northward from I-10 in Cochise County before slanting westward through Pinal County.
Officials stress that the study is preliminary and that no funding has been identified for a construction project that would cost up to $8 billion.
