## Summary
Tadano responds to aerial work platform issue with its Mobile Workshop.

## Article

A routine inspection can sometimes uncover a problem at exactly the wrong moment. This was the case for a major Italian energy sector operator when a Tadano aerial work platform (Oil & Steel series) was found to no longer meet the requirements for 1000 V insulation during a scheduled check.

The timing was particularly challenging: the machine was due to travel into the mountains that same day to help restore a power line damaged by a storm. With the platform unable to operate, the planned intervention was at risk of being delayed.

Tadano responded with its Mobile Workshop, a fully equipped service vehicle staffed by specialised technicians. The team travelled directly to the customer's location and carried out the necessary work on site. Within a few hours, the platform was returned to safe operating condition and able to proceed with the planned intervention.

“The rental market has expanded significantly, which means growing demand for machines ready to work in increasingly diverse settings,” said Alessandro Di Simone, service & electronic systems manager, oil & steel series. “This makes fast and reliable support increasingly important.”

## Spare Parts: Keep Machines Moving

Tadano has also expanded its spare parts infrastructure in recent years. Between July and Dec. 2024, the company introduced a new vertical warehouse at its Italian operation.

The warehouse has 43 drawer units and stores more than 2,500 spare-part references. A Warehouse Management System (WMS) tracks orders from receipt to shipment, helping to improve inventory management and reduce picking errors. Almost 90 percent of spare-parts orders are shipped within 24 hours of receipt.

“The customer doesn't see the warehouse, they only see whether the part arrives on time,” said Libero Gambi, parts manager. “That's why, for us, investing in internal organisation, order tracking and error reduction isn't a technical detail, it's a direct part of the service we provide.”

## Service the Customer

The Mobile Workshop has been operating for around two years and carries out approximately 25 to 30 field interventions each year across Italy. It can also support Tadano's European distributors when required.

The service covers hydraulic repairs, component replacement, cable and connector repairs and first-level mechanical work. More complex repairs are handled through Tadano's authorised workshop network.

“Our technicians bring years of direct experience on the range to the field, with all the equipment needed to carry out the work on site,” says Di Simone. “It's Tadano's service that comes to the customer, not the other way around.”

## Remote Support, Training

Tadano has complemented its field service with a remote connectivity system for fleet operators such as rental companies. The system allows customers to monitor machine status and location and plan maintenance. Software and selected parameters on the main control unit can also be updated over the air, reducing the need for some service visits.

Tadano is an IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) authorised training centre and provides training for both internal and external personnel, issuing around 100 licences each year.

Together, these services are designed to minimise downtime and keep machines operational.
