The roads in Tennessee are among the best in the country, according to a magazine representing the industry that uses the roads the most –– the truckers.  

Overdrive Magazine polls more than 700 truck drivers around the country each year, asking them to rate the nation’s roads, state by state.   The survey includes opinions about the quality of the roads, the smoothness of the riding surface, road markings, construction and detour availability.

“We’re working hard to improve the way our agency runs from a number of standpoints, especially in the realm of public outreach,” said Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Commissioner Gerald Nicely.  “But one thing that remains constant is that TDOT’s roads are considered by many to be among the best in the nation year after year.  We are doing all we can to maintain and improve our aging roads.  We want to continue to earn that kind of recognition.”

This is the sixth year in a row Tennessee has come out in the top five since Overdrive Magazine began conducting the survey 13 years ago.
