Tier IV Engines Among Host of Changes to JS Models

JCB’s JS260, JS330 and JS360 tracked excavators will be the first models in the firm’s comprehensive excavator line-up to move to Tier IV Interim compliant engines. The Isuzu engines will retain the same power output, while benefitting from increased efficiency. All JS models also feature a revised cab with improved visibility and an innovative electronics package to further boost productivity, according to the manufacturer.

The JS excavators feature:

• Tier IV Interim Isuzu engines on JS260-JS360

• Revised engine compartments with high efficiency cooling systems

• All black counterweights with the latest JCB branding

• Revised cabs with a ROPS option on models below 26 ton (24 t)

• An external ROPS frame will be available from launch on heavier machines above 24 tons.

Increased Efficiency Electronic Control

Along with the move to the latest Tier IV Interim compliant Isuzu engines in the three larger machines, all models including JS220 will benefit from a revised electronic control system. Advanced hydraulic technology ensures that the machines always start in ECO mode for maximum fuel efficiency, contributing to fuel savings of up to 11 percent. Optimized hydraulic pump settings and a revised spool configuration within the main valve block further boost efficiency.

The new JS machines have been restyled for a more rugged appearance, with an all-black counterweight with yellow chevrons at the corners. New engine compartment installations above the revised engines allow for increased cooling capacity, while strengthened side access doors complete the look. Upperstructure side skirts and service access doors also have been strengthened to reduce potential impact damage.

Two new cab layouts are available, one with an integral ROPS structure. All JCB JS excavators will be available with roll over protection structure approval, in compliance with ISO 12117-2:2008 as an option. ROPS certification for models below 26 ton (24 t) has been achieved through internal strengthening of the cabin and machine structure, for machines above 26 ton, ROPS is achieved through an external ROPS protective structure. Externally the ROPS cab is identical, while internally the cab will be marked with a data plate identifying compliance.

Bolt-on FOPS protection is available on all models. The front upper corner of the cab has been brought forward to allow flat glass to be used in the front windshield, making replacement easier. Both upper and lower sections of glass are laminated for added protection, and the roof glazing is now laminated glass too, rather than plastic.

The front screen split has been lowered by 5 in., to a 70/30 split, providing improved visibility to the digging area. The lower section of glass also can be removed and stored within the rear window area of the cab. The wiper mechanism is now mounted in the roof in a steel pressing. It is equipped with an isolator switch to ensure that it cannot function while the windscreen is raised.

All hoses and harnesses passing through the cab floor now have rubber grommets with a bolted retaining ring to provide improved sealing, improving heating and ventilation performance and reducing noise in the cab. Also on the floor, foot rests can now be specified if there are no option pedals. When option pedals are supplied a locking top section is available to convert the pedal to a footrest when not in use.

A revised rear storage moulding behind the operator’s seat gives access to a larger fuse compartment and provides the storage area for the front windscreen lower section. The air vents at the rear of the cab have been relocated to increase storage space for the operator.
