For 20 years, Williams Brothers Construction Company in Houston, Texas, has been buying REMACK remanufactured parts for its fleet of 360-plus Mack trucks from Vanguard Truck Center of Houston. So it was little surprise to Eugene “Red” Moore, Williams Brothers’ transportation supervisor, when he learned the company had installed REMACK’s 50,000th remanufactured carrier on one of its trucks.
“We have so many Mack trucks out on the road, it was bound to happen,” Moore said.
One of the largest construction companies in the United States, Williams Brothers builds roads and bridges throughout south Texas. In addition to the 360-plus trucks it runs in the Houston area, the company also has an estimated 150 in the San Antonio area and another 150 or so in the lower Rio Grande Valley. Every one of those 660-plus trucks except for one — is a Mack, and their trucks run 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“We buy Mack because Mack is the best equipment for our use,” Moore said.
“We’ve got 60 percent of our fleet on-road and 40 percent off-road, and we don’t wear things out — we tear things out. That’s the nature of the beast. That’s why we try to keep the best equipment and replacements, and it’s why we buy Mack and REMACK.”
As the parts manager at Vanguard Truck Center, Derek Jarboe has seen Williams Brothers’ business continue to grow. In addition to REMACK carriers, the company also buys REMACK engines, transmissions, water pumps and injector pumps from the dealership.
“They’re a long-term client and a large customer — of the entire REMACK product line,” Jarboe said. “The fact that they bought REMACK’s 50,000th carrier is pretty cool.”
But Williams Brothers wasn’t the only company to experience the history that comes with REMACK’s 50,000th carrier. Vanguard Truck Center played a role by installing the carrier into a Mack CHN, and the carrier assembly team at the Middletown Remanufacturing Center (MRC) in Middletown, Pa., got the ball rolling by remanufacturing the carrier in January.
Mike Harper, the group leader of carrier assembly at the MRC, said his team was excited to welcome REMACK’s 50,000th carrier.
“We’ve been building carriers for years, and the 50,000th is quite a milestone,” Harper said.
“I’ve been working on carriers for 21 years, so I’ve had my hands in nearly every carrier we’ve ever built. But I’ve also got a great crew of guys, and I’m proud that they were here for this achievement.”
And Jarboe is proud that one of his customers will be remembered as the one who bought a REMACK milestone.
“The Mack customer is just a different breed of customer,” Jarboe said.
“They’re pretty true to the Mack and REMACK product lines. And it’s nice to know that our largest customer, who is a very strong supporter of Mack and REMACK, now owns REMACK’s 50,000th carrier.”
