This year Vermeer Northeast is putting on a major push into the rubber-tired trencher and directional drill markets in New England. Vermeer Northeast’s Bill Porter, vice president of sales, set this goal and immediately set up a new four bay service center.

In addition, Porter hired Ralph Edwards, as the new director of underground sales, whom he believes to be the best man for the job. Edwards had received recognition as a top sales representative as well as being in the top 10 percent nationwide.

“We know if we were going to compete in the rubber-tired trencher market that we needed Ralph. We knew that Ralph was a dedicated company man and he never would have come [to Vermeer] unless he felt that Vermeer was a world-class product that he could be proud to support,” said Porter.

“It also helped that Vermeer Northeast was a top dealership winning the prestigious Platinum Award for 2003 presented by the Vermeer factory to its top dealers worldwide in all areas of service.

Edwards, who has previous rental manager experience, will be working to set up a million-dollar rental fleet for New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut, the seven states covered by Vermeer Northeast.

“This dealership has always been weak in their rental programs. I feel that rental is key to getting the brand loyalty and name recognition we will need to make us the No. 1 rubber-tired trencher supplier in the Northeast,” said Edwards. “You can expect to see a complete line of underground rental equipment and some very competitive pricing, come spring.”

In Hopkinton, MA, near the Mass Pike and 495 junction, construction crews started renovations Feb. 1. The new store will open in March with four service bays, a parts center and a large sales and rental yard.

In addition to the new Hopkinton facility Vermeer Northeast has a shop in Topsham, ME, and in Seymour, CT, as well as a large service hub in Albany, NY. There also are equipment depots in Rutland, VT, and Rochester, NY, with more than $8 million in inventory and experienced sales and service teams.

Currently, Vermeer has 16 sales representatives and four mobile service trucks based throughout its seven state area. These mobile units quickly provide customers with the service they need.

When all the changes are in place, Vermeer Northeast will be poised to become a leader in directional drills and rubber-tired trenchers in New England.
