Fri July 16, 2010 - National Edition
Construction Equipment Guide

Volvo Construction Equipment has announced its 2010 – 2011 schedule for Volvo Road Institute. Course curriculum ranges from two- to five-day sessions beginning in September and continuing through June 2011 at its two training facilities in North America: one in Chambersburg, Pa., and the other in Phoenix, Ariz.

“Our focus is to provide a service to the industry by providing a place for participants to learn best practices in asphalt paving,” said Dan Snedecor, manager of sales and operator training. “There is no requirement for people attending Road Institute to own Volvo equipment.”

Nearing its fifth decade, the Volvo Road Institute focuses its training efforts on the customer and various occupations within the hot-mix asphalt (HMA) paving industry. The Volvo Road Institute provides the paving contractor, operator, agency and industry personnel with the important link between equipment technology and job site applications. Operator courses and seminars are designed to improve an operator’s skills with both theory and hands-on operation of asphalt paving and compaction equipment.

The curriculum is designed for operators and crew personnel, as well as state DOT administrators and asphalt production professionals. Courses are offered in paver and compactor operation and maintenance, applications, automatic grade and slope control systems, screed operation and soil compaction application. Additional courses are offered on milling machines and hydraulic and electrical system fundamentals of Blaw-Knox and PF6000-Series pavers.

Courses are structured to provide classroom and hands-on practical training. Topics in each session range from daily and weekly maintenance to the operation and application of asphalt paving. Safety is included as part of each course curriculum, as it is one of the Volvo core values.

Class size is limited for ideal instructor-to-student ratios and team learning. Tuition is $750 per student per course.
