Vulcan Materials Company is hosting the "Vulcan Quarry Crusher Run National Series" in locations across the United States. Routes include access to working quarries and take runners down paths with an average grade of 10 percent, past granite cliffs to the quarry floor.

The distance from quarry floor to the finish is between 400 and 600 feet.

Participants can sign up for either a single or double "crusher", approximately 3.7 and 7.4 miles, respectively.

So far in 2019, crusher runs already have been held in Columbia, S.C., March 23; Birmingham, Ala., Apr. 27; Atlanta, Ga., May 4; and Chicago, Ill., June 23.

Upcoming crusher runs will be in held in:

  • Kingsport, Tenn., Sept. 28
  • San Antonio, Texas, Oct. 19
  • Chula Vista, Calif., Nov. 2
  • Manassas, Va., Nov. 2
  • Nashville, Tenn., Nov. 9

"For runners who like a challenge, for anyone who enjoys the chance to experience an extraordinary environment that's usually not accessible, this race is for you," said Race Director Jaime Lomas.

The Vulcan Quarry Crusher Run is held at nine Vulcan Materials locations across the country. Runners participating in multiple races get discounts and can earn exclusive Rock the Quarry series medals. Every race has a community partner, with Vulcan Materials donating proceeds to these local organizations.

The Quarry Crusher Run Series began in 2012 in Columbia, S.C., as a 3.7-mile race taking runners on a steep course to the granite quarry's floor and back up to the finish line. In 2016, the Quarry Crusher Run expanded to Vulcan quarries in other cities. Vulcan Materials Company now hosts nine events coast-to-coast, each race benefiting a local community partner.

Vulcan Materials Company is one of the nation's largest producer of construction aggregates — primarily crushed stone, sand and gravel — and a major producer of aggregates-based construction materials including asphalt and ready-mixed concrete. With a network of operations that stretches coast to coast, Vulcan locates quarries near the nation's growth centers.
