Construction Equipment Guide

Komatsu America Corp. offers the WA800-3 wheel loader with an operating weight of 224,650 lbs. (101,900 kg) for improved operations and high performance in mining and large quarry applications.

The WA800-3 is equipped with numerous features to increase productivity and reliability and enhance operator comfort, including a dual speed hydraulic system, full powershift planetary transmission, an ergonomic cab and Advanced Joystick Steering System (AJSS).

Special features of the WA800-3 include:

Powerful Performance

A high performance Komatsu SAA12V140ZE-3 turbocharged, water-cooled 4-cycle engine powers the WA800-3, delivering a net power of 808 hp (602 kW) while retaining fuel-efficient operations. This engine is EPA Tier II emissions certified without sacrificing power or productivity.

Its standard 14.4-cu.-yd. (11 cu m) bucket and high dump clearance (15 ft., 2 in. [4.6 m], with the standard boom and 17 ft. 1 in. [5 m], with the optional high-lift boom) make it the perfect unit for loading 100-ton (90 t) haul trucks.

Its wide tread (11 ft. [3.3 m]) and long wheelbase (17 ft. 11 in. [5.4 m]) provide stability and the high-tensile steel Z-bar loader linkage allows for maximum rigidity and breakout force.

Advanced Hydraulic Design

The WA800-3 features a Dual-Mode active working hydraulic system that enhances machine operating efficiency, ultimately resulting in a lower cost per-ton.

While in the “Powerful Loading Mode”, the system matches hydraulic demands to the application conditions to reduce cycle times.

During the digging and loading portion of the cycle, oil flow from the loader pump is reduced and tractive effort is increased. This reduces power demand from the engine to make the operation more fuel-efficient while providing more digging effort. When raising or lowering the boom, the combination of both switch and loader pumps provides maximum hydraulic power to the work equipment to further reduce cycle times.

The fully hydraulic braking system provides quicker braking actions compared to conventional air brakes. This feature eliminates problems such as freezing and rusting caused by water condensation encountered in air-operated systems, as well as the daily maintenance time required to drain the air tank. Also, it shortens the warm-up time because the hydraulic system charges up faster than an air system.

The wet multi-disc service brakes are fully sealed to lock out contaminants. A dual caliper dry disc parking brake automatically applies upon engine shut down or when hydraulic pressure falls below rated psi values.

Planetary Transmission and Joystick Steering

The full powershift planetary gear-type transmission allows the operator to control direction and quickly and easily shift gears. Komatsu’s Advanced Joystick Steering System (AJSS) integrates the steering and transmission control functions into one convenient seat-mounted lever. The AJSS eliminates the steering wheel, increasing operator leg room, forward cab visibility, and improves production and efficiency in V-cycle loading.

Productivity Through Increased Operator Comfort

The WA800-3 wheel loader provides for maximum operator comfort. Viscous damping mounts insulate the cab from shock and vibration, and all hydraulic equipment is mounted on high-resistance rubber to further reduce vibration, noise and operator fatigue.

The cab also features an ergonomically designed, fully adjustable air suspension seat that is integrated with the joystick system for maximum comfort and position control. A high capacity air conditioner with heater/defroster/pressurizer keeps the operator comfortable regardless of weather conditions.

Advanced Technology, Diagnostics Reduce

Operating Costs

Komatsu’s Edimos II Electronic display and monitoring system reduces downtime and repair costs by continuously monitoring all operating systems and alerting the operator to specific diagnostic operational information such as engine oil and coolant levels, fuel level and torque converter temperatures.

From the cab, the operator is able to check the air cleaners, battery charge and brake oil temperature. The monitor panel also functions as a diagnostic tool for easy troubleshooting and reduced downtime. Extended change intervals on engine oil and filters and hydraulic oils further reduce operating costs and scheduled down time for preventative maintenance.

Also on board is Komatsu’s VHMS (Vehicle Health Monitoring System) to provide detailed monitoring of the machine via satellite communication or through laptop computer downloads.
