At this year’s Waste Expo show in Las Vegas May 1-3, Komptech found that former buzzwords like sustainability and recycling have become serious talking points for companies in the waste handling and disposal business.

Booth traffic was good; Sales Director Todd Dunderdale noted that “Increasingly, people know who we are and approach us.” Also, this year Komptech brought a Topturn X67, its largest compost turner. The unusual-looking machine was a real eye-catcher and a big draw; one visitor wondered “What’s a Transformer doing on the booth?” and in fact the Topturn does look a little like a massive Transformer ready to jump into action.

At the show, Dunderdale also found that more and more visitors were talking about sustainability, biomass and recycling as serious business issues. As he put it, “Sustainability was just a buzzword a few years ago; it was new and interesting, but that was all. Now we’re seeing customers really paying attention to it. With the higher tipping fees and new regulations, you just can’t landfill like you used to.” Dunderdale added that as a European-based company, Komptech has always had to deal with these issues, so their machines are designed ground-up for low consumption and high efficiency in extracting recyclables and biomass from waste. “The economics are driving recycling, just like they did in Europe, and we’re in a good position to help customers with that.”

With booth traffic high in volume and quality, the Komptech reps at the show talked to many important customers and made good leads. All in all, it was a very successful show.
