Digga introduced its new innovative MM-10K screw anchor drives system, which is a lightweight hand-held screw anchor drive system used for installation of screw anchor piles in confined or low access sites — a requirement in all new construction in coastal flood areas of the United States. Canada is considering similar requirements. President of Digga North America Steve Hoeger (L) discusses the MM-10K with Justin Fournier of Saskatoon Concrete Ltd.

The Schwing Concrete Pumping Systems booth drew plenty of interest, especially for its new S 38 SX, a first-of-its-kind, five-section boom. Tim Goodroad, marketing and development of Schwing America Inc., said, “The [S 38 SX] is destined to be the most popular boom in our lineup with job forward articulation that hyper extends at every section to exceed the capabilities of traditional Z and roll and fold booms.”

World of Concrete attendees flocked to the GOMACO exhibit to see the new Commander IIIx, which can now slipform a 24 in. (610 mm) radius. The Commander IIIx also features the GOMACO Three-Sensor Radius System for Stringline or Connect to 3D Guidance.

Territory Managers Troy Motz (L) and Craig DeKarske were on hand to answer questions about the Merlo line of telehandlers. AppliedMachinery Sales of Rock Hill, S.C., is the exclusive importer of Merlo and operates under the name AMS-Merlo.

At the Caterpillar booth with a Cat 918M wheel loader is the crew from Crow River Construction of New London, Minn. Hanson said that he buys his company’s Cat equipment from Ziegler Cat in Bloomington, Minn. “They offer great equipment, great parts and service,” he said. “We are really happy with our Cat Equipment and push it hard in the field.”

Rick and Robin Nation from Springfield, Ore., Nation’s Mini-Mix, a small yardage concrete specialist, are checking out the new Bobcat T595 track loader. “This is a great show for concrete people like us,” said Rick. “Great equipment and lots to see.”

Haugen said that the system is an industry first and that his company has received huge interest in this product.

World of Concrete 2017 provided exhibitors with a hugely successful platform to start the year off strong, packing the show floor with qualified industry-related attendees ready to make purchasing decisions on the latest equipment, products and technologies available. Many exhibitors commented WOC 2017 was one of the best shows in recent memory, resulting in a 73 percent rebook on booth space for WOC 2018.

This international event for the concrete and masonry industries, and the first annual event of the year, drew 50,770 registered professionals and featured more than 1,455 companies exhibiting across more than 681,196 net sq. ft. of space.

“We are very pleased with the results of this 2017 event,” said Tom Cindric, senior vice president, Informa Exhibitions U.S., Construction & Real Estate. “As the construction industry continues with its upward momentum over the past few years, World of Concrete has successfully kept pace, providing the industry with the latest products, technologies and educational offerings. This once again positions WOC as THE event for concrete and masonry professionals.”

Jackie James, director of World of Concrete, added, “Exhibitors and attendees seemed very pleased with WOC 2017 from the show floor to the educational opportunities. Although the show was earlier than in past years, the industry showed up in force to see new products, network with their peers and prepare for business in 2017. International attendance was strong with representation from India, Italy, Philippines, Costa Rica, Brazil, China, Japan, South Korea, Chile, Argentina and many other countries.”

Also presented was the Weatherton Scholarship, providing funds to help the next generation of concrete professionals attending the CIM (Concrete Industry Management) Program. Dan Regad, from New Jersey Science & Technology University, was the recipient of the $2,500 scholarship. In addition, CIM held its annual unreserved silent and live auctions at World of Concrete. The silent and live auctions raised an initial tally of approximately $875,000. More information on the CIM Program can be found at www.concretedegree.com.
