Yancey Bros. Co. and SITECH South jointly hosted a technology day at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Ga., on Dec. 1. This was the final day of a three-day training program, which included a full training day on Nov. 29 for SITECH South personnel, training for Yancey Bros. Co. on Nov. 30 and activities for customers and guests on Dec. 1.
The Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) provided the space for an array of activities, including Trimble and SITECH software support and hands on demonstrations in the media center; ride alongs in AMS Chevrolet SS pace cars; lunch in the drivers' meeting room; and SITECH South drone demonstrations and flights, which took place in the AMS infield. In the parking areas of AMS, guests browsed static displays of machines and tented displays from several divisions of Cat, Yancey Bros. Co., and SITECH South.
The newest advancements in technology from Trimble were installed on Yancey Cat machines and were available for contractors and attendees gain a complete understanding of what is available through SITECH and Yancey.
Representatives of Yancey Bros. Co., SITECH South, Caterpillar, Trimble, Weiler, and others were on hand to lend complete support and provide active demos of all the newest technology for the grading and paving industry.
Many machines were on display at the demo area, including Cat's factory-fit integrated 3D machine, as well as the newest solutions from Trimble. The new Trimble 3D mastless system, Trimble Earthworks for dozer, was installed on a new Cat D6N and garnered a lot of attention from the crowd.
“This is the system that was introduced at ConExpo and Trimble has done a remarkable job delivering the next generation of machine control,” said Brian Holley, SITECH South general manager. “Contractors have been very impressed with its speed and performance while maintaining the accuracy they expect from a Trimble solution. It is second to none.
“The Trimble Earthworks for dozer system is the first mastless dozer system from Trimble,” said Holley. “They've removed the GPS devices from the blade and put them on the cab. It utilizes an Android operating system on a 10 in. touch-screen ruggedized tablet, offers superior accuracy, portability, and is a brand-new platform — built from the ground up.
“Those that have seen and tested the system say it's accurate, it's fast, it's interactive, it's responsive, and gives great information. All installation and training is performed by SITECH South. We can install at the dealership, at the customer's location, or in the field. We also provide other services, such as 3D Data Prep/modeling and a full range of training, including site positioning system training for the base station and rover, and drone flight operations as well as image processing for topographic and quantities data.
“All-in-all, what we're trying to show is Trimble's next generation of machine control, 2D and 3D, for both dozer and excavator. In addition, we can put machine control technology on any sized machine. For example, we've installed and are demonstrating a Trimble GCS900 system utilizing a UTS [Universal Total Station] on a Cat 279 compact track loader, with box blade. This has drawn much attention from contractors of all sizes. The bottom line for us, we provide top-tier solutions for contractors of all sizes with a broad range sized machines, varying minimal or extensive technology and price range.
