A project to improve a 15.5-mi. section of Interstate 20, in western Ward County, is under way.

All four lanes will be rebuilt as part of the project. There will be lane closures required with this project.

The project stretches from the Pecos River near Barstow to 1.5 mi. west of FM 1927 near Pyote. Minor repairs also will be made on the bridge over the Pecos River as part of the project. The contractor plans to start on the east end of the project near Pyote and work in segments of approximately 2 mi. There may be more than one segment being worked on at a time, but the segments won't be continuous.

The speed limit will be reduced to 70 miles per hour in the work zone. There will be times when lanes will be restricted to widths of 12 ft.

Motorists should use extreme caution in the work zone. An increased law enforcement presence is possible within the project limits.

The project is expected to take about 18 months.

Jones Brothers Dirt & Paving Contractors of Odessa won the contract with a low bid of $24.1 million.
