$745M in Transportation Funding Will Drive California Economic Growth

The California Transportation Commission allocated $745 million Aug. 22 in new funding to 118 transportation projects that will provide congestion relief for motorists statewide and bolster the state’s economy.

“We’re providing much-needed jobs and putting people to work building better roads, bridges, rail, and transit for California,” said Caltrans director Malcolm Dougherty. The allocations include nearly $82 million from Proposition 1B, a transportation bond approved by voters in 2006. In total, nearly $14 billion in Proposition 1B funds have been distributed statewide.

The remaining $663 million in allocations today came from assorted transportation accounts funded by state and federal dollars.

Highlights of the funding allocations include:

• Placer County — $245,000 was awarded to the City of Rocklin for landscaping improvements by planting additional trees near Sierra College Boulevard and Interstate 80 to increase the visual impact at this interchange.

• Butte County — $7.92 million from the State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP) to rehabilitate 18.8 lane mi. (30.3 km) of State Highway 70 near Oroville from Palermo Drive to the Garden Drive Overcrossing to improve ride quality, prevent further deterioration of road surface, minimize the costly roadway repairs and extend the pavement life.

• Nevada County — $5.8 million from the State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP) to rehabilitate 20.8 lane mi. (33.5 km) of State Highway 20 near Grass Valley and Nevada City from Route 20/49 to Junction 49 at Uren Street to improve ride quality, prevent further deterioration of road surface, minimize the costly roadway repairs and extend the pavement life.

• Nevada County — $3.9 million from the State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP) to rehabilitate 12 lane mi. (19.3 km) of State Highway 20 near Grass Valley and Nevada City from Indian Springs Road to the Junction of Route 49 to improve ride quality, prevent further deterioration of road surface, minimize the costly roadway repairs and extend the pavement life.
