9 Brothers Adopts New Wheel Loader; Adds Volvo L25B to its Fleet Family

“The American Dream” is alive and well in the Palmieri family. When they immigrated to the United States in 1962, the Palmieri family consisted of nine boys and five girls. In 1979, Mario, as president and Vittorio and Armando as silent partners, founded 9 Brothers Building Supply on Islip Avenue in Brentwood, Long Island, NY.

Over the past 27 years, the small company has grown into a large supplier of building materials to New York Metropolitan-area contractors. Today, 9 Brothers Building Supply has a large yard, which contains all types of building materials from building blocks and cement to aggregate products for the concrete pouring process. And to satisfy a very demanding customer base the company also delivers to area construction sites.

However, there are two products that 9 Brothers always keeps in large supply in its Brentwood yard — sand and gravel. For years, these materials were loaded onto customers’ trucks with the same tractor loader that the company used for snow removal in the winter. Recently, the loader was replaced by a Volvo L25B that was sold to 9 Brothers by Malvese Equipment.

Before deciding to purchase the Volvo L25B, Palmieri demoed several different makes and models of machines. He chose the L25B because of its features, which include an air- and oil-cooled diesel engine. And when employees of 9 Brothers tried out the loader, they were pleased with the choice that Palmieri made.

“The new Volvo L25B has been a big hit with 9 Brothers employees,” said Vincent Arone, who regularly operates the Volvo loader.

“We really like the tight steering and maneuverability of our new Volvo. Our yard gets very full and cramped with materials for our customers and the Volvo moves around these close quarters very effectively,” he said.

“Our old loader was an open ROPS machine so we were very excited when Mario Palmieri, the company founder, ordered the loader with an enclosed, heated cab. Six months out of the year, it can be quite chilly around here and we do use the loader for snow removal so the cab is probably the employee’s favorite feature,” Arone explained.

“The loader came equipped with two different buckets, one that measures a very narrow 42-inch width. We need a narrow bucket like that because often we are loading materials into vans. Our previous loader was quite old and did not offer a quick-connect system for attachments. Needless to say, switching back and forth between our two buckets is now easier and faster than ever.”

Malvese Equipment has been in business since 1912 with locations in Hicksville and Riverhead, NY.
