Keystone Chapter, Associated Builders & Contractors Inc. (ABC) has recognized local contractor firms for work performed on area construction projects during the annual ABC Excellence in Construction Gala, held July 20, at Hershey Lodge and Convention Center, Hershey, PA.

Approximately 350 association members, project owners, design professionals and guests were in attendance to help celebrate the 2005 ABC Excellence in Construction Program. The presenting sponsor of this event was Sovereign Bank, and the Diamond Sponsors were: Frey Lutz Corporation; Harmon & Davies; and Kinsley Construction Inc.

ABC Keystone’s Awards of Excellence Gala has become a premier competition within the construction industry that recognizes outstanding construction projects across the state. One of the main goals of the program is to create a greater awareness within the community of the quality workmanship produced by free enterprise contractors.

Jack Zimmer, ABC Keystone president and CEO, stated, “Celebrating excellence in construction involves more than recognizing impressive projects; sharing the stories of the construction process acknowledges the skill, training, time and effort each person contributes to further the merit shop philosophy.”

This year’s program showcased 61 entries, all judged upon specific criteria relating to the quality of construction and workmanship by a panel of design professionals and members of the construction industry.

The Excellence Award, the top honor, is given to the top winner(s) of each category, provided the project earned at least 80 out of 100 points. If none of the projects in a category scored more than 80 points, then an Excellence Award will not be given. The Merit Award, second place, is automatically given to each project that scored 80 or more points. All other entrants earn a Certificate of Commendation.

Excellence Award winners receive a specially-designed sculpture of the American eagle, symbolizing free enterprise, with a bronze engraved plate, as well as a certificate for each member of the design team. Merit Award winners receive a smaller version of the American eagle trophy, with a bronze engraved plate, as well as certificates for each member of the design team. Certificate of Commendation winners receive a certificate for each member of the design team.
