More than 200 chapter members, township officials, legislators and guests attended the groundbreaking of Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) Southeast Pennsylvania Chapter’s new facility at 430 W. Germantown Pike, East Norriton, PA, in March.

The association’s new $1.5-million two-story, 8,300-sq.-ft. building will be located on a 1.3-acre (.53 ha) site shared with the Montgomery County Industrial Development Corporation. It is slated for completion in the fall of 2003.

According to ABC, the new office will be a symbol, both inside and out, of ABC’s commitment to excellence through quality. “2003 promises to be the next milestone in our history as ABC,” the association said.

The facility will be built entirely with the same ABC contractors who regularly build Pennsylvania roads, bridges, hospitals, churches, schools and office buildings.

E. Allen Reeves Inc., of Abington, is serving as the construction manager of the project. The company is donating its services, worth $150,000. Blooming Glen Contractors Inc., of Skippack, will donate all the site work for the job, valued at $300,000.

Other subcontractors that will be donating their services include Tri-M Electrical Construction LLC, of Kennett Square; Universal Electrical Service Inc., of Franconia; and Worth & Company Inc., of Pipersville.

At the ceremony, Chapter Chairman Jerry Kilhefner, of Klover Contracting Inc., began the ceremony with remarks and a prayer and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Bob Capps, of Allan A. Myers, and an ABC board member, commented, “This building is a dream come true. Although it is not a great time right now [in the world], we have stability, funds and people. Now we can show people that we are here to stay.”

Rob Reeves Jr., president of E. Allen Reeves, noted that as a 29-year member of ABC, “this is very meaningful to me. I was president when we bought the last building.” Running a fourth-generation company, Reeves added, “This is a proud moment for ABC and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Jerry Gorski, of Gorski Construction Co. Inc., and ABC Southeast Chapter’s building committee chairman and board member, thanked everyone for attending. “I’d also like to thank everyone on our building committee. This is only a small part of what we are going to do. We are pleased to be here.”

Other speakers and officials at the event included: Louis McQuirns, board of supervisors, East Norriton Township; Montgomery County Commissioner Ruth Damsker; State Sen. Connie Williams; State Rep. John Ficther; State Rep. Melissa Murphy Weber; State Rep. Carole Rubley; Lee Strickland, vice chairman of District Seven; State Sen. Rob Wonderling; and Board Member Steve Nelson, of Blooming Glen Contractors.

The exterior of the building will feature stucco and stone and the site will boast approximately 50 parking spaces.

Upon completion, the facility also will serve as ABC’s new training center. The office will house classrooms for up to 50 students at a time. ABC said it intends to train more than 2,000 people during the first year, and hopes to increase that number in successive years.

Training at the facility will include such classes as Blueprint Reading, Introduction to Supervision, and Estimating as well as such topics as labor relations, and legal, safety and technology programs.
