The Southeast Pennsylvania Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) has recognized 19 projects as recipients of the Fourteenth Annual Merit Construction Award of Excellence at the Chapter’s Awards Banquet on Nov. 17.
More than 500 ABC members and guests attended this event and Bill Bergey, former Philadelphia Eagle, served as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening.
Over the past 14 years, more than 500 projects have been entered in this annual competition, representing approximately $1 billion of construction in the Delaware Valley region. Thirty judges, representing area construction user firms, developers, architects and engineers, evaluated the projects during site visits in September.
Geoffrey N. Zeh, president/CEO stated, “The purpose of our construction awards program is to showcase the high quality construction offered by the association’s membership to the construction user market. Our members above all, stand for excellence, leading the industry in training, safety, productivity and service.”
Projects were judged by an objective set of criterion, based on category entered, which evaluated such components as HVAC and plumbing, walls, exterior skin of building, wall and floor covering, landscaping and paving.

The awards were announced during a video presentation, which highlighted all of the projects entered in the competition. ABC members who served as specialty contractors and suppliers on the projects entered also were recognized. Competition finalists also received awards of merit.
According to Zeh, “Our annual awards contest continues to be a tremendous success, receiving wide support and accolades from both members and non-members. The construction user is becoming more and more aware of the capabilities of our members, and most major developers and owners understand the value of building with Merit Contractors.”
