Construction Equipment Guide

AED has opened new Washington, D.C., headquarters at 601 Pennsylvania Ave. — located halfway between the Capitol and the White House. AED President and CEO Toby Mack will spend approximately half his time in Washington to personally lead the association’s legislative advocacy on behalf of the construction equipment distribution industry.

AED’s Government Affairs Office continues its lobbying efforts from its Henry St., Alexandria, Va., headquarters. The Oak Brook, Ill., Administrative Headquarters also remains intact, housing the AED and The AED Foundation staffs.

Mack will further build liaisons with coalition partners also headquartered in Washington, including: The U.S. Chamber, AGC, ARTBA, NSSGA, NAHB, NUCA, NAW and many more. AED plays a leadership role in coalition work on such vital issues as highway and water infrastructure investment, taxes, health care, housing, and many other issues that drive the construction market or affect AED members’ costs of doing business.

Effective advocacy, said Mack, now more than ever requires that the association’s top executive have good relationships and interact personally with key members of Congress. This is especially critical now, he emphasized, with about 100 new members of Congress now in Washington, and with new committee and subcommittee chairmen in the House, including key panels such as ways and means, transportation and infrastructure and small business.

“I’m looking forward to being more fully personally engaged in the battle, now on the front lines. Borrowing a phrase from the Marines, ’you can’t lead from the rear’, I look forward to working hand-in-glove with AED Vice President of Government Affairs Christian Klein on what our members consistently tell us is AED’s most important priority: Getting government to focus on economic growth and investment in America’s infrastructure, and away from more regulation, higher taxes and shifting more and more social burdens onto the productive sector of our economy,” Mack said.
