Nick Yaksich, vice president of Global Public Policy of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), has been appointed to chair the policy committee of the Canadian American Business Council (CABC). Yaksich also serves on the CABC board of directors.

The council was established in 1987 as a non-profit issues-oriented organization to provide a private-sector perspective on issues affecting both countries and to promote business relationships between the two nations. CABC numbers more than 100 companies in a wide variety of business sectors.

CABC policy priorities include facilitating legitimate movement of goods, services and people between the two borders; recognizing and promoting the unique trading relationship between the two countries; supporting free and fair trade; and promoting the value of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and North American competitiveness worldwide.

AEM represents manufacturers of construction, agricultural, forestry, mining and utility equipment as well as industry service providers.

The association established a Canadian branch office in January 2004, now located in Ottawa, to more effectively address Canadian legislative, regulatory, trade and other issues affecting member companies and the industry.

AEM also is a sponsor of the Canadian International Farm Equipment Show (CIFES), held annually in Toronto.

“Canada is our industry’s largest trading partner, and we share not only a common border but a common industry vision of promoting competitiveness in the global economy so our nations’ companies can remain profitable and provide jobs and other benefits to their communities,” stated Yaksich.
