Amulet Manufacturing has announced the addition of a new product to its full line of manual and hydraulic bucket thumbs — the Phantom wedge lock quick coupler.
“Amulet’s Phantom quick coupler is an innovative design in the market place,” said Paul Giddings, design group manager at Amulet. “The wedge shape locking plate, centered in the coupler, is used to secure the attachment pin and can be manually or hydraulically tightened to automatically eliminate the play that is sometimes a result of wear caused by operation.”
The Phantom’s quick coupler is manufactured of high strength alloy plate and has minimal moving parts, resulting in a virtually maintenance-free product. The low-profile design of the coupler minimizes loss of excavator breakout force. Models are available for base machines weighing 1,996 to 69,853 kilograms (4,400 to 154,000 lbs.)
The Phantom coupler is available in both manual and hydraulic models. The manual models can easily be converted to hydraulic operations at a later date. Hydraulic models have a double acting ram with integral check valve. The couplers are manufactured to accommodate most OEM buckets fitting a wide variation of pin centers.
The Phantom quick coupler Cylinder Safety Check Valves prevent accidental unlocking even with loss of hydraulic pressure. In addition, the In-Cab Safety Indicator System includes locked and unlocked indicator light and “unlock” buzzer to maximize on-site safety. The Phantom quick coupler cannot accidentally unlock even in a tight curl.
“Customers were looking for a complete package from Amulet — a coupler and thumb combination to work with a large variety of buckets, hammers and other attachments. The wedge design of the lock system in the coupler has proven to be bullet-proof in all applications, including hydraulic hammers,” said Deric Wagner, Amulet’s sales manager.
“We believe that the features of the Phantom quick coupler offer our customers the most versatility by accommodating a large variation of pin centers — such as switching from a Case 9030 to a Case 9020,” he added.
