A construction worker is accused of using heavy-duty equipment in an attack on his boss at a Florida job site Wednesday.

A construction worker is accused of using heavy-duty equipment in an attack on his boss at a Florida job site Wednesday.

"Please hurry somebody come out here, he just hit him with a level and is about to kill him," another worker is heard telling a dispatcher on a 911 call.

The frantic call to 911 from the construction site in DeBary exposes the moments of terror workers witnessed, which left their supervisor with serious injuries, as they were working along 17-92 where a new Walmart store is being built.

"He hit him with what?" the dispatcher asked.

"A loader. Somebody tried to kill him on my job. Please send somebody out here," the other worker said. "He ran him over and covered him up with dirt! Send somebody out there, please!"

Deputies say Erick Cox was operating a front-end loader when he had words with the site superintendent, Perry Byrd.

A witness told deputies that the fight escalated from expletives to an equipment-engineered attack, saying Cox then dumped a load of dirt onto his boss, pinning the man to the ground.

That witness said Cox exited the loader, picked up a level, struck the victim with it while laughing, then used the loader again to dump more dirt on him.

Deputies say the victim suffered severe trauma: a 4-inch gash to his head, and needed surgery. He is still in treatment at a hospital.

Cox told deputies he struck the victim to defend himself and claimed the second dumping of dirt was an accident.

He was arrested and booked into jail on an aggravated battery charge, but was able to make bond. No one answered at his home when WESH attempted to talk with him.

The owner of the construction company said Cox is no longer employed with that company.
