Beard Equipment Company has come up with a novel way to raise support for fighting cancer. Starting on Oct. 1 and continuing for 12 months, Beard Equipment will rent a special pink tractor to customers, with all rental revenue going to USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital and the USA Mitchell Cancer Institute.

“While launching our wellness program we recognized that employees, customers, relatives and friends have in some way been touched by cancer,” said Kristen Beard DeLaney of Beard Equipment. “We at Beard Equipment wanted to make a contribution to the cancer research community.

“While exploring ways to contribute we realized that we have two outstanding research facilities here in Mobile,” said Brooke Beard Dodson of Beard Equipment. “USA’s Mitchell Cancer Institute and USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital seemed to be ideal organizations to help make a difference.”

The attention-getting pink tractor is actually a 22 ton (20 t) excavator, a construction tool for contractors for general site excavation, installation of pipe and utilities and land clearing. The pink paint is being donated by Tommy English of Automotive Paint Supply and PPG. Rental rates are $800 daily, $2,000 weekly and $6,000 monthly.

“We have hopes of raising between $60,000 and $70,000 for Children’s & Women’s and the Mitchell Cancer Institute,” DeLaney said. The tractor will be available to rent in Mobile and through Beard Equipment’s Florida locations in Pensacola, Panama City, Freeport, Jacksonville, Lake City and Palatka.

For more information about renting the pink tractor, contact Beard Equipment Company in Mobile 1-855-GOBEARD (462-3273).

About USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital

USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital is among fewer than ten freestanding hospitals in the country dedicated specifically to the health care needs of children and women, offering Mobile’s only neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, pediatric oncology and sickle cell outpatient center and high-risk obstetrical care. With more than 2,700 births annually, USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital is the area’s leader in deliveries.

A major expansion that will nearly double the size of USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital is scheduled to be completed in 2013, recognizing the community’s validation of the hospital’s quality of care and the hospital’s opportunity to continue to meet the needs of a varied and growing population.
