Construction Equipment Guide

Melroe Company has introduced four new compact excavators designed to offer increased digging depth, reach and dump height.

The new Bobcat 328, 334 and 341 long-arm excavators with added reach and dump height are ideal for excavating irrigation lines, run-off ditch work, installing gas, phone or cable TV lines and other shallow excavation jobs. The Bobcat 331E excavator features an extendable arm, making it ideal for applications that occasionally require increased reach and dump height performance, such as truck loading or irrigation work in banana and cranberry bogs.

Improved Reach and Dump Height

Based on the existing Bobcat 325 and 331 excavators, the dippers on the Bobcat 328 and 334 excavators are a foot longer than the dipper on the respective models. The Bobcat 341 features a dipper that is 40 centimeters (15.8 in.) longer than that on the 337 standard-arm model.

The 331E, a variation of the Bobcat 331 model, offers the benefit of an extendable dipper. This allows an operator to extend and retract the dipper up to 83 centimeters (32.5 in.) in jobs where added reach is essential.

Added reach and dump height make the compact excavators ideal for many truck-loading applications, as well as shallow excavation applications such as final grading, footing work, or when attaching an auger and planting trees.

To offset the added dipper length, each compact excavator is equipped with an additional counterweight mounted to the underside at the rear of the machine. The counterweight package adds approximately 159 kilograms (350 lbs.) to the 328, 334 and 331E excavators, and 204 kilograms (450 lbs.) to the 341 excavator.

Working Range Specifications

The Bobcat 334 excavator features an arm length of 150 centimeters (59 in.) with a maximum dump height of 3.3 meters (10 ft. 9 in.) and maximum digging depth of 3.4 meters (11 ft. 1 in.). The Bobcat 328 excavator has an arm length of 135 centimeters (53.15 in.) with a maximum dump height of 3- meter and 2.8-meter (10 ft. and 9 ft. 2 in.) maximum digging depth.

The Bobcat 341 features an arm length of 191 centimeters (75 in.) with a maximum dump height of 4 meters (13 ft. 3 in.) and maximum digging depth of 4.1 meters (13 ft. 4 in.).

The extendable arm of the Bobcat 331E increases ground level reach to 5.6 meters (18 ft. 5 in.) and maximum dumping height to 3.4 meters (11 ft. 3 in.).
