Bomag 4413 Asphalt Paver Features Increased Power

Bomag’s new 4413 self-propelled asphalt paver features a 60-hp (44.7 kW) Cummins A-Series water-cooled diesel engine that offers approximately 40-percent more output torque than the engine on the previous model. The new engine also is turbocharged for consistent power at all altitudes.

As with all Bomag self-propelled pavers, the 4413 includes a load-sensing hydraulic system that saves on fuel consumption by delivering power only when needed. Even with this power saving system, the new paver can push asphalt feeder trucks while maintaining working speeds up to 160 ft. (48.8 m) per minute.

The new 4413 also features a completely redesigned undercarriage, or track drive system, that uses welded-steel crawler-style components rather than the smooth-casting style pads on the previous model. Six sealed rollers per side carry the weight of the machine, while bolt-on rock guards installed on the inside and outside of each track drive prevent asphalt from loading up on the chains.

Unlike the design of the previous model, each of the track drives on the 4413 is bolted to a cross member frame structure and can be removed individually for maintenance. The entire undercarriage structure can be removed as well.

The 4413 features dual operating positions for control from either side of the paver. Operator’s stations have been rotated back toward the operator to keep all controls within easy reach without bending or straining. An additional step has been integrated into the screed to offer a more comfortable operator’s position.

Also, upper platforms are cushioned in rubber to reduce vibration and the lower walk boards extend to promote easier mobility.

The 4413 offers paving widths ranging from 8 to 13 ft. (2.4 to 3.96 m), making it ideal for driveway, parking lot, asphalt repair and resurfacing applications. Designed to hold up to 7.5 tons (6.8 t) of asphalt, the high-capacity hopper provides long operation intervals with fewer refills.

A full-floating screed provides variable paving widths and features heat and vibration to help maintain material flow and consistency. Screed wear plates offering 400 Brinell hardness are designed to withstand harsh job-site conditions and are bolted on for easy replacement. The two 30-in. (76.2 cm) adjustable hydraulic screed extensions are single-ratcheted, allowing operators to quickly and conveniently adjust both height and attack angle with one turn of the crank.

The 4413 comes standard with the Mega-Feed dual auger system. Evenly distributing a uniform layer of asphalt across the mat, the dual material augers extend with the screed extensions, providing consistent material control at all paving widths and minimizing the need for hand labor.

Featuring a fixed-bed design, the 4413 is built with all major components located outside the hopper, which ensures simple cleanup in less than 15 minutes. Dual 24-in. (60 cm) material conveyors at the base of the hopper are independently operated with automatic/manual forward and reverse controls. This allows the operator to precisely control the amount of material being sent to the screed if paving wider or thicker on one side or the other.

Other standard equipment includes urethane track pads, a high engine-water temperature/low engine-oil pressure automatic shutdown, washdown spray system, swivel mounted bumper rollers and power depth adjustment controls for variable mat thickness.

Optional equipment includes a hydraulic truck hitch, operator seats, spraydown hose reel and screed automation system.
