Construction Equipment Guide

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announced the beginning of construction activity on the replacement of the U.S. Route 3 (River Road) bridge over the F.E. Everett Turnpike in Bedford.

This design-build project consists of the design and construction of a new bridge just north of the existing U.S. 3 bridge over the Everett Turnpike, with a new roadway approach that will tie in at the Target store entrance to the northwest and 500 ft. beyond Hawthorne Drive to the southeast.

Initial work involves tree clearing and ledge removal operations. The construction will progress with the construction of the new bridge and approach road work through 2012. Traffic should be switched over to the new bridge in late fall of 2012, with final slope work, removal of the existing bridge, and final paving completed by June 25, 2013.

E.D. Swett, of Concord, N.H., is the contractor for the $11.5 million “best value” contract. Louis Berger Group Inc., which has an office in Manchester, N.H., is designing the bridge.
