YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) The California Department of Transportation has begun building two temporary bridges to bypass a rockslide blocking one of the main routes into Yosemite National Park.

The $8 million project will again allow tour buses and other extra-long vehicles to use Highway 140 to access the park. A stretch of the highway has been blocked since a rockslide buried it in rubble two years ago.

Caltrans built two emergency bridges in 2006 to skirt the rock slide, but they only accommodate vehicles 28 feet or shorter. Construction began May 1 on the new bridges, which will be in place until the road itself is restored.

Officials expect temporary traffic delays and plan to close the Merced River for brief periods during construction.
