The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) received the 2007 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Clean Water Act Stormwater Management Award for its exceptional leadership, commitment, and expertise in the field of stormwater quality management. The EPA presented this highly prestigious award to the Caltrans Stormwater Management Program at the National Clean Water Act Recognition Awards Ceremony.
“This national award recognizes Caltrans as an environmental leader throughout the United States in the area of stormwater quality management,” said Caltrans Director Will Kempton. “This is a great example of Caltrans’ commitment to our natural resources and the environment.”
The Caltrans Stormwater Management Program is one of the most comprehensive and advanced programs of its kind and earned this distinction for its innovative research on stormwater run-off, its collaborative efforts with other agencies on watershed protection, the development of new Best Management Practices, and its multi-million dollar public education campaign.
