Carolina Tractor Announces Plans for Branch in Monroe, NC

Carolina Tractor, headquartered in Charlotte, NC, has purchased 33.9 acres (13.7 ha) in Monroe, NC, on which to construct a branch store to serve southern Mecklinburg County, Union County, Anson County, Stanly County and Richmond County. This will be Carolina Tractor’s seventh branch store joining other locations in Greensboro, Asheville, Statesville, Hickory, Bryson City and Greenville, SC.

Carolina Tractor is planning a facility to serve the construction rental needs of its customers and to perform truck engine repair for trucking customers. The facility is planned to be approximately 35,000 sq. ft. representing an investment in excess of $3 million. The location will be at the corner of Morgan Mill Road (NC 200) and Stafford Street Extension on the recently purchased property. This location allows easy access to U.S. Highway 74 and to the future Monroe bypass.

Carolina Tractor’s Cat Rental Store rents construction equipment, electric generators, skid steer loaders, scissor lifts, air compressors, trenchers, light towers, shooting-boom forklifts and straight-mast forklifts. The Cat Rental Store will employ approximately five persons and will have an equipment rental fleet valued at more than $5 million.

Carolina Tractor’s truck engine repair business will service all makes and models of Classes 5 to 8 on-highway trucks with a state-of-the-art truck shop. The truck shop will employ approximately 12 persons.

In addition, Carolina Tractor will offer a full-service parts department for all Caterpillar equipment and will locate in Monroe sales personnel selling construction equipment, material handling equipment, truck engines and electrical power generation equipment. Further, Carolina Tractor will offer enhanced field service capabilities from Monroe for the products above. Additional employment for these services will be approximately 10 persons bringing the total expected employment in Monroe to more than 25 people.

Carolina Tractor is a dealer for Caterpillar, Perkins Engine, Ottawa and Barber-Greene serving the western half of North Carolina and upstate South Carolina. Carolina Tractor is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2001, and employs nearly 700 people.

The architect for the new facility is Merriman Schmitt Architects of Charlotte. The civil engineer for the new facility is L. B. Smith & Associates of Monroe. The contractor for the facility will be R. T. Dooley Construction Company of Charlotte. The site-work contractor and plumbing, mechanical and electrical contractors are undetermined as of this date. Carolina Tractor was assisted by Jess Perry of Walt Perry Realty in Monroe, NC, in its property search and as a broker in the property purchase. Carolina Tractor anticipates beginning construction in 2002 and may open a temporary Cat Rental Store location on the site later this year.
