Case Construction Equipment recently introduced its 400 Series Skid Steers, which come in five radial- and three vertical-lift models that range from 49 to 82 net hp (36.5 to 61 kW), with maximum rated operating loads from 1,500 to 3,000 lb (680.4 to 1,361 kg). These models feature an extra-heavy-duty design, Tier 2-certified engines, improved reliability and efficiency, and ease of service.

“These models maintain the strong Case heritage, with improved reliability and increased performance features,” said Jim Hughes, brand marketing manager, Case Construction Equipment.

New Engines

In addition to being Tier 2 certified, the new large-displacement, high-torque, long-life Case Family III engines on the 430, 440, 445, 450 and 465 provide quiet, smooth power for productive operation.

These same models feature a 95-amp alternator for reliable starts. A new grid heater option also is available for cold-weather starting.

Radial-piston drive motors offer greater traction, improved reliability and efficiency.

The 410, the smallest model, has a naturally aspirated Case diesel engine, and the 420 has a turbocharged Case diesel engine. Both are Tier 2 certified.

A new cooling system provides balanced cooling to both the engine and hydraulics. This, along with improvements to the auxiliary hydraulics, has further increased reliability.

Enhanced Operator Comfort

For operator comfort and ease of operation, the Case 400 Series machines are equipped with low-effort servo-hydrostatic controls that reduce fatigue during operation. In addition, a factory-ready cab with optional air conditioning is available for Models 430 and above.

Visibility to the bucket is improved with the repositioning of instrumentation to the right upright post.

And a more comfortably positioned, trigger-style switch activates the two-speed operation available on Models 430 and above. Two-speed operation allows the machines to accelerate to nearly 12 mph (19.3 km/h) for quicker cycle times and movement around the job site.

Serviceability is facilitated with the easy-tilt ROPS/cab. Maintainability is improved with the extended service interval for oil changes — to 500 hours — lowering operating costs.

Different Applications

Hughes explained that the new lineup gives customers the choice of radial-arm or vertical-lift machines.

“Case customers can decide if they want the kind of fast cycle times and quick digging capabilities available on models like the Case 450 or if they want the industry’s highest lift height, available on the 465,” he said.

He noted that model numbers ending in zero are radial lift, and model numbers ending in five are vertical lift.

Case 400 Series Skid Steers retain many contractor-proven, productivity enhancing features, such as optional Ride Control and self-leveling.

More than 75 attachments are available for the Case 400 Series Skid Steers, including augers, hammers, brooms, backhoes, stump grinders, landscape rakes, rockwheels, tree shears, scarifiers, snowblowers, forks, buckets and more.
