Cashman Equipment recently donated both equipment and employee time to assist the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB) and the Nevada Landscape Association (NLA) with the Operation Green 2009 program.

Operation Green, an annual contest held in southern and northern Nevada, received more than double last year’s entries for free landscaping from NLA members. The winners were chosen by the NSCB, who made their decision based on income and special circumstances.

Tiffany and Kevin Egbert of Henderson were the official southern Nevada winners, and their quiet neighborhood was inundated with volunteers and equipment in mid-November. The front and back yards were both renovated, rendering the areas fit for the Egbert’s young daughter to play in. Along with a 226 Cat Skid Steer Loader and a 5-yard dump truck from Cashman Equipment, services, materials, and machinery were also donated by Village Nursery; Ewing Irrigation; Belgardold Castle; Pavestone; John Sobey/Able Tree Service; Kalamazoo Materials; The Turf Store; The Office Squad; LCIS Insurance (Landscape Contractors Insurance); Private Greens of Nevada; Courtney Landscape & Pools; Land Care Inc.; Nevada Landscape Services, LLC; Jeff’s Lawn & Landscaping; Tom Raasch/LCIS Insurance; Tom Holborow; and, Republic Services.

Tiffany, who submitted their story into the Operation Green 2009 contest, was very surprised they won…to the point she had forgotten she even entered their home to win.

NSCB examined their circumstances and found the Egbert family to be among the most deserving candidates. Kevin, a staff sergeant with the 1/221 Cavalry Nevada Army National Guard stationed in Afghanistan, is not expected to return home until April 2010. Active duty overseas has left little time for him to fix up the yard for their 1-year-old daughter, Maeve.

As she watched the renovations taking place on landscaping day, Tiffany said, “I can’t believe we won. Kevin has been worrying about this so much. It’s really a huge burden off of him.”

The NLA members also chose to provide free landscaping for Rose Maria Gordon, a 78-year-old Operation Green applicant with asthma and emphysema who was unable to work in her yard. Like Tiffany, Rose was both surprised and thrilled to benefit from the Operation Green 2009 program.

The Nevada State Contractors Board has the responsibility to promote quality construction by Nevada licensed contractors through a regulatory licensing system designed to protect the health, welfare and safety of the public.

The Nevada Landscape Association promotes professionalism and integrity within the green industry through education, high standards and community involvement.
