They pave the roads and build the facilities during wartime. The U.S. Naval Seabees, with a detachment in Las Vegas, recently used Cashman Equipment as a training site to prepare them for potential action.

“Cashman Equipment showed its patriotism and support of the Navy by hosting our detachment on their facility and helping us learn to operate Caterpillar equipment,” said Equipment Operator Third Class Jeb Bozarth, a member of the Seabee group.

All members of the group require expertise in equipment operation as part of their training. During the exercise, Navy reservists received instruction from Cashman Equipment operator trainer Lynn Daybell, and product support sales representative Mike Guillen.

The group spent approximately four hours learning to operate equipment such as backhoe loaders, graders, wheel loaders and track loaders. They also reviewed safety requirements and performed walk-around inspections on each machine.

“Because of the time and resources we were given, we were able to train our equipment operators now rather than take six months to send them to school,” said Bozarth.

The Navy will honor Cashman Equipment with an official Navy (ESGR) Patriot Award, as well as a Seven Seals Award that is signed by each branch of the military and the U.S. Secretary of Defense.

Cashman Equipment is Nevada’s Caterpillar equipment dealer. In business since 1931, the company operates locations in Las Vegas, Reno, Elko, Winnemucca and Round Mountain in Nevada, and Susanville and Mammoth Lakes in California.
