The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced that it has received a 2016 Corporate University of the Year Award from the Corporate Learning Network for its CDOT University (CDOTU) employee-learning program.
CDOTU is a comprehensive, internal corporate university that includes four "colleges" committed to delivering best-in-class training to employees:
• Highway Maintenance: Administered both regionally and at the Maintenance Training Academy, this program meets the specialized learning needs of approximately 1,500 employees who maintain Colorado's more than 9,000 lane mi. (14,484 km) of highway and more than 3,000 bridges. The program includes training on safety, communication, and maintenance processes and operations, as well as specialty training, such as welding and structural trades.
• Engineering and Construction: In its 10th year, the Transportation Engineering Training Program serves CDOT engineering and construction professionals with training in many areas, including project management, design and construction.
• Transportation Operations and Development: This program is focused on learning for multi-modal transportation operations and development.
• Administration: This program offers extensive training in the areas of finance, accounting, procurement, contracting and facilities as well as HR training, such as leadership skills.
Since launching in 2008, CDOT's Office of Employee Development has grown the CDOTU program significantly, fostering a strong learning culture by providing consistent, quality, job-specific training to employees.
Employee roles are mapped clearly to training curricula, which are tracked in the organization's online learning management system, which launched in 2015. To serve different learning needs and styles, CDOTU's more than 360 active courses are offered in multiple formats, including instructor-led, blended, video, simulation, social, micro and mobile training as well as e-learning.
