Construction Equipment Guide

INA, Ill. (AP) Construction is under way on a new $1 million miner training site at Rend Lake College near the southern Illinois community of Ina.

The 20,000-sq.-ft. (1,860 sq m) complex will offer training of new coal miners and required in-service training for working miners.

The center will feature classrooms, offices and operational coal-mining equipment, including mining machines, roof bolters and shuttle cars. About half of the space will be used for a simulated underground coal mine.

It isn’t immediately clear how soon the training center will open.
