Officials break ground on the I-35 at Ronald Reagan Boulevard project in Williamson County.

TxDOT representatives joined local elected officials, including U.S. Representative John Carter's office, State Representative Terry Wilson, Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell Jr., Williamson County Commissioner Valerie Covey and Jarrell Mayor Larry Bush to break ground on the I-35 at Ronald Reagan Boulevard project in Williamson County. The new project will replace the existing two-way bridge at I-35 and Ronald Reagan Boulevard with two new one-way east and westbound bridges.

"This $13.6 million construction project addresses safety and mobility by replacing the narrow Ronald Reagan Boulevard bridge over I-35 with two new one-way bridges, and realigning an important crossing in Williamson County," said Bobby Ramthun, TxDOT Georgetown Area engineer. "These much-needed improvements will make it safer and easier for all modes of transportation in a growing area of Williamson County."

In addition to rebuilding Ronald Reagan Boulevard over I-35, the project will realign the road with CR 311 in order to connect to the newly constructed bridges. Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements will also be made as part of the project.

"These overpass improvements will continue to make Williamson County an amazing and safe place to live," said Gravell.

Project development was funded by the Williamson County Road Bond Program. Construction is funded by TxDOT and the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.

"The I-35 at Ronald Reagan Boulevard project is a crucial link in Williamson County's long-range transportation plan," said Covey. "It is vital to the safety and mobility of a fast-growing area within the county."

The project is expected to be complete mid-2021, weather permitting. The contractor is Dan Williams Company.
