DICA, a manufacturer of engineered ground support solutions, has introduced an expanded line of WorkSafe Hole Covers, giving contractors a simple way to comply with OSHA requirements for covering open holes on job sites.

Building on the success of its original round covers used in utility pole applications, DICA's new line introduces additional sizes, square models and ergonomic handling features designed to make jobsite safety easier and more consistent, according to the company.

"Compliance shouldn't be complicated," said Kris Koberg, CEO of DICA. "Open holes are one of the most overlooked hazards in construction, utilities and industrial environments. WorkSafe Hole Covers replace plywood and guesswork with a durable reusable, purpose-built safety solution."

Engineered to Prevent Slips, Falls

OSHA standards for general industry (1910), construction (1926) and shipbuilding (1915.73) require that holes be covered or guarded to protect workers from slips, trips and falls.

WorkSafe Hole Covers are produced in high-visibility yellow to increase hazard awareness and are clearly marked with international caution symbols and language.

"WorkSafe Hole Covers are designed to protect workers from falling into open holes and to create clear hazard awareness," said Koberg. "They are not intended to be driven on, walked on or used as bridging devices. However, each cover has a 350-lb. rated capacity with a minimum 2:1 design factor when properly installed and the surface is slip-resistant to provide added protection."

Making Jobsite Safety Simple

Manufactured from engineered thermoplastic, WorkSafe Hole Covers will not rot, splinter or delaminate, the company said. In addition, because they don't absorb contaminants and are easy to clean, they are reusable from job to job without danger of transferring chemicals.

All models are lightweight — weighing no more than 50 lbs. — and feature redesigned ergonomic handholds for improved comfort when handling.

Stakes are included with every cover and secure WorkSafe Hole Covers through machined staked holes to prevent accidental displacement by wind, equipment or employees. DICA's standard engraving program allows companies to permanently mark covers for identification and theft deterrence.

The expanded product line includes two round models and three-square models, ranging from 42 in. to 60 in. DICA recommends selecting a cover that provides at least 6 in. of ground contact around all sides of the hole.

The company said WorkSafe Hole Covers are in stock and shipping from the company's headquarters in Urbandale, Iowa.
