Ditch Witch of Georgia recently acquired its third location, adding Ditch Witch of Albany to the existing facilities in Savannah and Atlanta (Forest Park). The company, owned by the Ditch Witch factory, is Charles Machine Works Inc., located in Perry, Okla.

Wade Bailey, general manager of Ditch Witch of Georgia, started with the company 33 years ago. Over the years, Bailey worked his way up through four different owners and various positions, including salesman, sales manager and assistant general manager.

He explained that back in the 1970’s, all three stores had the same owner, Clarence Merritt. When his two daughters married, he split the state, giving each of them separate dealerships, one in Savannah, and another in Albany.

“When a situation came up at the end of 2012, CMW acted to acquire Albany, thus reuniting all of Georgia again for the first time in 40 years. We are now one company, which is Ditch Witch of Georgia with Albany and Savannah branches,” said Bailey.

The other members of the Ditch Witch of Georgia management team responsible for day-to-day operations are Ronnie Mayfield, service and rental manager; David Ponder, parts manager; Cindy Fawcett, controller, and, Ricky McCrary, branch manager in Albany. All totaled, 134 years of Ditch Witch experience are wrapped up in this management team.

Ditch Witch of Georgia has a wide variety of equipment offerings including pedestrian and riding trenchers, plows from 12 to 115, the SK750, 755 compact tool carriers with multiple attachments, cutting edge cable locators and ground penetrating radar (GPR), a complete line of vacuum excavating units and tools, a Hammerhead product line from pneumatic piercing tools to “pipe bursting” the directional drill line: JT5, JT922, JT20, JT25, JT30, JT4020, JT100, and rock drilling units: AT30, AT4020, AT100. These JT units complete with tracking electronics, mixing systems and trailers, are offered at all DW locations to meet customer’s underground needs wherever they are located in the state of Georgia. Much of this equipment is available for rent.

“At Ditch Witch of Georgia, offering the finest underground equipment is not where our job ends, it’s where it begins…we believe that our equipment is only as good as the parts and service we offer to our customer,” Bailey said.
