Construction Equipment Guide

The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) has announced the winners of its National Design-Build Awards for the year 2003.

The awards were developed to recognize annually the most outstanding design-build projects in the United States and around the world by promoting and recognizing the use and effectiveness of design-build as a project delivery method.

The awards were presented during the Minds and MasterWorks awards dinner at the 2003 Professional Design-Build Conference held Oct. 8 to 10 in Orlando, FL.

Two types of awards were presented at the gala. Projects winning the National Design-Build Award best exemplify the principles of interdisciplinary teamwork, innovation, and problem solving that characterize design-build delivery. These projects frequently break new ground in their approach and accomplishments.

The national design-build award is presented to the highest-rated project in each category and is the most prestigious project award presented by DBIA.

The second type of award is the Design-Build Excellence Award that is presented to the second highest rated project in each category.

Projects winning the Design-Build Excellence Award represent successful analysis of design-build strategies resulting in a unique application of teaming to exceed the owner’s needs.

This year 99 projects were submitted in 11 separate categories representing over $3.86 billion of construction delivered utilizing integrated design and construction. Of the projects submitted, all were delivered on or ahead of schedule and on or below budget with no litigation resulting from the project.

Simply stated, that means that being on-time and on-budget with no litigation was not a criterion for winning an award. It became a standard. Winning projects were honored for their advanced and innovative application of total integrated project delivery.
