Fermec, a U.K.-based manufacturer of loader backhoes, has won three contracts in the United States. The state of North Carolina has placed a contract for 33 Fermec 860SB loader backhoes and the state of New York has awarded a 12-month contract during which any state or municipal body can order Fermec loader backhoes, a deal which is estimated to demand 40 machines.

Ben Newell of Fermec said, “Good things come in threes and the third contract is particularly pleasing as it has been placed by the West Virginian Department of Transportation, calling for 10 Fermec 760B loader backhoes. It is the third such contract the state has placed with Fermec, and is based upon its positive experiences of the performance and productivity provided by the 760B model. The machines are in the state’s white paint, and fitted with air conditioning. Hammer hydraulics were required as West Virginia is a rocky, mountainous state, and roads through this topography require many cut and fills.”

The contract for the state of North Carolina was won following two demonstrations, events which Fermec regularly stages around the world.

Lowell Stout of Fermec North America said, “We believe that if we can persuade people to operate our loader backhoes for themselves the sales process is 90 percent plus complete. Fermec runs demonstration events as part of its worldwide dealer-support program, and Richard Ghent, one of Fermec’s best demonstrators, flew in from the U.K. and choreographed the North Carolina meeting. The result — the contract for 33 Fermec 860SB loader backhoes fitted with a 4.9-meter backhoe boom for increased digging depth — simply confirms our faith in the first-class performance of our products. The state of North Carolina is susceptible to hurricanes and the loader backhoes will be used for storm clearing as well as other duties such as highway maintenance.”
