As the parent company for one of the largest equipment dealer groups in North America, Texas-based Equipment Support Services (ESS) is making sure its companies share the same name.
United Equipment in Tennessee, Carruth-Doggett Industries and Future Equipment, both in Texas, and Southern Power and Equipment in Atlanta, formerly four separate companies, are coming together under the name Equipment Support Services.
“The change is designed to make it easier for customers to do business with us. It’s easier to remember one name,” explained Randy Goss, ESS president and CEO. “A lot of our customers are very mobile now, working on jobs across many cities and states. These types of customers would rather deal with fewer, more substantial dealer organizations. Our customers can avoid the burden of retraining each dealer on their specific business needs. With our four regions all operating under the ESS name, we are letting our customers and potential customers know we are one entity.”
Castle Harlan Inc., the parent company for ESS, purchased the four companies in 1999 in an effort to build a larger, more financially-sound Case dealer group, capable of competing in the increasingly competitive heavy-equipment market, said Peter Hess, ESS marketing director.
With 16 locations covering six states, ESS wants to create a broader appeal throughout its regions. “We’re at a point where we need to leverage our size,” said Goss. “We want to forge a sense of continuity and cooperation. You can’t foster a sense of unity with four different names.”
Goss also looks forward to the name change bringing employees together. “We hope the name change will boost moral for the 325 plus people who serve our customers everyday,” he said. “We want our employees to know they are part of one company, not four.”
ESS sells, rents and services Case heavy-duty construction and agriculture equipment, including backhoes, dozers, excavators, skid steers, graders, Ag tractors and attachments, forklifts and trenchers.
The company has a parts inventory that exceeds $6 million with an additional $20 million available from the Atlanta parts depot. ESS also has a large fleet of late model Case machines available for rent at all its locations.
ESS’ customers can receive service on their equipment, including parts acquisitions, after hours through a 24/7 emergency support program. The company also recently introduced a full-maintenance lease plan where customers pay one monthly fee for maintenance costs.
