Gary Davis Smith, 54, of Lake Oswego, died Feb. 22, surrounded by his friends and family.

He was born Feb. 25, 1959, to Roger and Carol Smith and lived his whole life in Lake Oswego. Mr. Smith graduated from Lakeridge High School in 1977 and received a B.A. in business from Oregon State University in 1981.

He then founded Construction Equipment Company with his father, Roger, that same year. Headquarted in Tualatin, Ore., the company manufactures rock crushing and screening equipment.

Mr. Smith lived life to the fullest. Together, he and his wife Debbie had a positive outlook on life. “I have no bucket list and I am surrounded by people I love,” he said. “No regrets,” was his motto.

He was also an avid photographer and Lakeridge baseball fan. He dedicated many volunteer hours. He took photos of many of your families. He lived in a house divided, but proudly wore the Duck shirt only to be caught with the Beaver shirt underneath so he did not get a rash. He loved traveling with his family and friends.

Mr. Smith faced the last days of his life with dignity, humor and love for all around him. He fought bravely and without complaint for the last three years against not one but two primary cancers. Throughout his journey, he never lost his sense of humor, infectious optimism and the love he had for his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife and best friend, Debbie; children, Lauren and Tyler; parents, Roger and Carol Smith; sister and brother-in-Law, Leasa and Jonathan Lowy; and nieces, Anna and Sophie Lowy. He was a chosen honorary father to Olga, Galina and Melissa; father-in-law, Wayne; brother-in-law, Mark; nieces, Amber and Ashley; and many friends. Smile if you are one of them because it is what he would want. Grow a mustache for him if you can.
