Gradall Industries Inc. will introduce Series IV Gradall excavators at ConExpo-Con/AGG.
Featured will be the XL 4100 IV model. The XL 3100 IV and XL 5100 IV models are being updated, too — all equipped with Gradall’s wheeled undercarriages that can be driven at speeds up to 55 mph. Each of the models has a new Mercedes Tier IV engine, which meets the latest EPA requirements.
“This new engine is highly efficient and meets all the new government emission standards,” said Bill Thomas, vice president of Gradall excavator products. “One engine delivers power to the hydraulic system in the boom and upperstructure controlled from the upper cab, plus it provides the power to drive and position the carrier from either the upper or carrier cabs.”
The XL 3100 IV engine will generate 218 net hp (162 kW), the XL 4100 IV will produce 245 net hp (182.6 kW) and the XL 5100 IV engine has 265 net hp (197.5 kW).
More than 80 percent of the service parts on each machine are interchangeable, simplifying inventory processes to assure normal service parts are available. Other new features will include a more powerful electrical system with high visibility LED lighting.
Some other basic performance specifications for the new models include the following:
• XL 3100 IV 4 x 2 models weigh 40,930 lbs. (18,566 kg) and 4 x 4 models weigh 41,720 lbs. (18,924 kg). They have a maximum boom reach at groundline of 27 ft. 5 in. (8.4 m); and they have 17,900 lbs. (80 kN) of ratedbucket breakout force.
• XL 4100 IV 6 x 4 models weigh 48,894 lbs. (22,178 kg) and 6 x 6 models weigh 50,925 lbs. (23,099 kg). They have a maximum boom reach of 30 ft. 3 in. (9.2 m) at groundline; and they have 24,900 lbs. (111 kN) of ratedbucket breakout force.
• XL 5100 IV 6 x 4 models weigh 56,880 lbs. (25,800 kg) and 6 x 6 models weigh 58,397 lbs. (26,488 kg). They have a maximum boom reach of 33 ft. 9 in. (10.3 m) at groundline; and have 24,900 lbs. (111 kN) of rated bucket breakout force.
“Governments and contractors prefer our highway speed models because they save time and labor, eliminating the need for a lowboy trailer to transport the machines over interstate highways and roads to job sites,” said Thomas.
“In addition, they can be easily driven from one job to another and then back to the safety of the equipment yard at night.”
With high pressure, load sensing hydraulics and a telescoping boom that tilts 220 degrees, today’s Gradall excavators are versatile, using a wide range of attachments including grading, excavating and pavement removal buckets as well as grapples, hammers, boom extensions and more.
“With just one Gradall excavator, a contractor can handle excavation, demolition, V-shaped ditching and material movement and then create a slope, final grade and finish the cleanup,” said Thomas. “By not requiring many different machines to handle each of those jobs, there is a measurable savings for the end-user.”
Having a single, fuel-efficient engine provides a savings in the cost of the machines as well as in the expense of routine maintenance. New Gradall excavators also feature other service advantages including longer intervals between recommended maintenance, according to the manufacturer.
Gradall excavators will be displayed in the Alamo Group booth, which also will showcase the Vacall AllExcavate, a new hydro excavator that draws upon Vacall’s jetting and vacuum power for sewer cleaning.
Vacall products also are produced by Gradall Industries.
The booth also will feature machines produced by two other Alamo companies — a new street sweeper by Schwarze Industries of Huntsville, Ala., and a Rivard trencher manufactured in France.
