Granite Construction Co. has won two Texas road contracts, worth $75.5 million and $46.5 million respectively.
The $75.5 million contract comes from the North Texas Tollway Authority to construct an additional 2.5-mi. (4 km) segment of an existing six-lane divided tollroad in Carrollton, TX. Construction of the segment will involve 10 bridges, 2.5 million cu. yds. (1.9 million cu m) of excavation and embankment, concrete paving, asphalt paving, and special subsurface stabilization.
This project is part of the 5.5-mi. (8.8 km) extension of the President George Bush Turnpike from IH 35E in Carrollton to the IH 635/SH161 interchange in Irving, TX.
The second contract was awarded by the Texas Department of Transportation to widen about 5.1 mi. (8.2 km) of freeway near Lubbock, TX. It will include removal, replacement and widening of the existing freeway on Loop 289 and US-82 including continuously reinforced concrete pavement, retaining walls, grading, drainage, asphaltic concrete pavement, bridges, illumination, traffic signs and pavement markings..
Work for both of the contracts will begin March 1.
The tollroad project should be completed by the first quarter 2006, while the freeway project should be done by Sept. 2005.
Earlier this month, Granite’s Chief Operating Officer William Dorey told attendees at the 3rd Annual CJS Securities New Ideas Conference that the company has ample opportunities for long-term growth despite state budget deficits and general weakness in the economy.
Also earlier this month, the company said it received a $162 million contract to install signal equipment for the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority.
