NEW YORK , NY (AP) A group of relatives of victims of the attack on the World Trade Center has called for a demonstration against aspects of the redevelopment plan on the two-year anniversary of Sept. 11.

The Coalition of 9/11 Families said in a statement that it was pleased that planners have proposed an alternative to an underground bus garage on the site to accommodate visitors to Ground Zero.

But the group said it opposed any construction – other than a memorial or related infrastructure – on the footprints of the twin towers "from bedrock six stories below grade up to infinity."

The group said on its Web site that redevelopment plans include a memorial that stretches three stories below ground level but allow for non-memorial development on an additional three lower floors.

"Our elected officials told us they would never forget," the group said in the statement. "We didn’t forget. Did they?"

Lee Ielpi, whose son was one of the 343 firefighters who died at the trade center, told Newsday that the group met Thursday night, July 31, at a Long Island firehouse to assess support for the protest.
