Grove Spawns Seaworthy Vessel

Construction Equipment Guide

Grove’s GMK5120B 120-ton (GMK5 100, 100 t) all-terrain cranes are at work at the Swan Hunter Shipyard on Tyneside, England.

Mammoet, a European crane rental and heavy-lift operation, has two of the machines on long-term contract for fitting out topside oil and gas production modules. The cranes are operated on two 12-hour shifts per day for the work on Kerr-McGee’s new Global Producer III. This ship is a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel scheduled to go to work next year in the North Sea oil fields.

The GMK5120B has a maximum tip height of 288 ft. (88 m) which allows it to reach all topside areas and the hydraulic-luffing jib adds extra versatility in load placement. The mobility and maneuverability offered by the all-wheel steering allows easy positioning on the docks.

Mammoet is part of the Netherlands-based Van Seumeren Group, one of the largest crane rental companies in Europe. It recently expanded its mobile crane fleet with three of the GMK5120B machines and 10 GMK4090 90-ton (GMK4075 80 t) Grove all-terrain cranes.
