The Georgia Utility Contractors Association held its 2007 Spring Conference at the Ramada Inn Lake Chatuge in Hiawassee, Ga., on April 27 to 29.

More than 70 GUCA members and guests attended this entertaining event while enjoying the quiet Appalachian setting on Lake Chatuge’s natural shoreline underneath the view of the beautiful mountain range.

Many motorcycle enthusiasts participated in the motorcycle run on April 28, lead by Road Captain Gary Harber of Reynolds Inc. These members enjoyed an adventurous ride through the pristine region of the north Georgia and North Carolina mountains. The riders rested at Deals Gap for lunch and continued the thrilling ride on the “Tail of the Dragon” route.

Fierce competition ensued as anglers teamed up for the fishing tournament. The long day came to a close as boats arrived at shore for the weigh-in, which was organized by Bass Master Ryan Padgett of Laser Products LLC. The first place team was awarded to the team “Plug Less,” Tim VanEgmond of Mainline Supply of Jonesboro Inc. and David Murphy of Bowlin Grading, with a total weight of 12.88 lbs. with five fish.

VanEgmond also took home the Big Bass prize with the largest bass weighing in at 3.75 lbs.

With all the exciting events taking place, there was still time for seminars and presentations, which included important legislative and industry updates.

The following GUCA members helped make this year’s event a success: Atlantic Precast Concrete Inc., Construction Laser Inc., Richard Harp Excavation Inc., Mainline Supply of Jonesboro Inc., Reynolds Inc., Rockdale Pipeline Inc., Jan R. Smith Construction Co. Inc., Southeastern Clearing Systems LLC, Strack Inc., Randy Williams Grading Inc. and Willow Construction Inc.
