The Historical Construction Equipment Association (HCEA), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of the construction, dredging and surface mining equipment industries, participated as a supporting organization at ConExpo-Con/AGG 2011.
Approximately 180 people, representing 43 states, six Canadian provinces and seven other countries, joined the HCEA as individual members and several companies committed to corporate memberships. Positive relationships were established or reinforced with numerous exhibitors, including manufacturers, trade associations and the industry press.
The HCEA’s exhibit featured the first production unit of its 1:10 scale model of the 1839 Otis steam shovel. Termed by HCEA Archivist Thomas Berry, “The oldest new machine at the show,” the model was a very popular attraction. The model retails for $4,500, which is coincidentally the same price as the original machine.
“We held the price for over 170 years,” said HCEA President Larry Kotkowski.
