The Hunyady Auction Company will be conducting a sale for the Modern Group May 25 in Farmingdale/Wall Township, N.J.

The auction will take place at Modern’s facility, located at 1325 Highway 34 South, and will feature a host of surplus equipment from the company’s construction equipment and tool rental fleet. The Modern Group recently decided to exit the short-term rental business

During the May 25 auction, bidders will have the chance to vie for an extensive selection of equipment, including New Holland mini-excavators and attachments; Caterpillar and New Holland skid steers and attachments; aerial lifts; trenchers; rollers; concrete equipment and accessories, scissor lifts and snow removal equipment. Also going on the block will be shop tools, industrial forklift trucks, stand-by generators and other assets from the various operating division within the Modern Group.

Although the Modern Group is exiting the short-term rental business, the company emphasizes it will still maintain new and used equipment inventories for all the manufacturers it represents, as well as maintain a full line of parts and in-house repairs and road service calls.

“We are refocusing our efforts on equipment repair services through the sales of new and used equipment using the traditional dealership model,” said Don Sherow, senior vice president of sales. “This will allow us to be far more expeditious in our customer service work than we have been in the past because we’ll be able to dedicate our service technicians in a much more focused way on our new and used equipment customers.”

Modern Group’s equipment lineup includes New Holland and Terex Earthmoving equipment; Bandit Forestry Products; Lull rough-terrain telehandlers; Elliott, Palfinger and Terex cranes; and a variety of light equipment consisting of Honda, Stihl, EZ Grout and Terex compact and light equipment.

Sherow anticipates a successful auction. “We chose Hunyady because of their previous successes in the auction marketplace,” he said. “The fact that there are no buyer premiums and the wealth of services that Hunyady has brought to Modern for the sale was critical in us selecting them to conduct this auction.”

Tim Schwer, executive vice president of Hunyady Auction Company, is likewise pleased to have the chance to work with Modern. “We’ve had a long relationship, more than 20 years, with Modern through the AED [Associated Equipment Distributors] of Delaware Valley,” he said. “We’re very excited to work for Modern and we’re looking forward to a successful auction because of what Modern has to offer for products.”

The auction will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude when all items are sold.
